Fredrick Douglas vs. Huckleberry Finn Essays

Fredrick Douglas versus Huckleberry Finn Essays Fredrick Douglas versus Huckleberry Finn Essay Fredrick Douglas versus Huckleberry Finn Essay Article Topic: The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Frederick Douglas Essay In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, and In the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the two writers depict a comparative view on subjection and the individuals in the South. In the two bits of writing, the principle characters had no parental direction, and both started as being captives to brutal slave proprietors. One distinction that happens between the two is that in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the individuals who do promotion things are rebuffed, while in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, numerous coldblooded individuals pull off their wrongdoings. In Mark Twains epic, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Husks adolescence is solitary. He has no parental figures to help him in using sound judgment in his life. His mom was dead and he was always unable to meet her, while his dad was a tanked. HIS dad was away more often than not and seldom gave any consideration to him. This absence of thankfulness could without much of a stretch cause a small kid to feel undesirable and exacerbate It In the life of a slave. Particularly since he was abused by his slave-proprietor as ell. In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, Douglas had to grow up with no character and not knowing who his dad is. This is hard for a small kid to appreciate, particularly since he was encircled by white neighbors and companions who were all mindful of their dads personalities. : All the more critically, Douglas had to grow up without the sustenance of a mindful mother since they were isolated when Douglas was as yet a little fellow. Both these creators are attempting to show the crowd the hardships that African Americans had to experience. Additionally, they re endeavoring to depict how unfeeling the white individuals were and how inconsistent the two people were. The character Houck, from the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, was subjugated to a cruel lady named MISS Watson. She was an amazingly mean and Ignorant slave proprietor who constrained them to work horrible hours and help her in everything that she does. Like that, in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, Douglas first ace was Mr.. Anthony, who was an exceptionally oblivious man since he rewarded his slaves like refuse continually whipping them and beating them. Likewise, since they lived on a confinement the slave-proprietor was doubtlessly not one to recollect their names or even know about a portion of his slaves presence, however just by the mass number he had acquired. The two bits of writing had an astounding comparative approach to depict the southerners, as the trouble makers, which Is genuine due to the manner in which they abused the people working for them, however In an offs people perspective, subjugation was normal and known to be a lifestyle. A few people realized that It was ethically erroneous what they were doing, however since It was so advantageous, they went to strict occasions to assist stitch with feeling good and not feel so regretful of their activities. In conclusion, the primary and most baffling contrast between the anecdotal, the Frederick Douglas, is the consequence of the activities that the terrible individuals did. In the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the faker for the Duke of Bridgewater and the fraud for the dauphin, King Louis Wigs child, are rebuffed for their violations. In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, there were numerous individuals who escaped for their offenses including murder. For instance, when Douglas was youthful and lived on the ranch, he saw Demy, another slave, go into a stream to calm the torment room being whipped, yet when Mr.. Violence, the regulator, tallied to three and Demy didn't react, he shot him in that spot. At the point when he was addressed by the land proprietor, Mr.. Violence said that the slave was an awful model. Another episode where the slaves were abused was when Douglas lived in Baltimore. He saw the Hamilton family beating their two slaves, Henrietta and Mary. An examination was to be held, however nobody had it authorized thus the Hamilton family had the option to carry on with their life free and no pay dearly for their activities. This shows how agonizing the Ruth is about reality and how in anecdotal stories the trouble makers consistently get their disciplines, while, all things considered, a few people can pull off their wrongdoings. The correlation that Mark Twain and Frederick Douglas make in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, about the manner in which the southerners rewarded slaves with imbalance and mercilessness shows how life could have been troublesome on the off chance that you were conceived in this timeframe. Imprint Twain, however, depicts his anecdotal stories with regards to what we want them to be and not concerning how they happened constantly.

Book pseudo-philosophical Free Essays

The book of occupation is in fact a troublesome book (especially on the grounds that it is organized like a sonnet, which I think made it all the all the more exhausting. ) But going past that, it makes them intrigue pseudo-philosophical conversations going on. Occupation is a valiant man, given the conditions and the general suppositions about the idea of the universe at that point (a universe where god every so often makes his quality known through a hurricane or whatever gadget). We will compose a custom article test on Book pseudo-philosophical or on the other hand any comparative theme just for you Request Now Employment is acceptable and courageous, however I think there is a characteristic suppositions in his contentions that cause them to come up short (in my book): the presumption of the legitimacy of the method of reasoning behind the guidelines under which God appears to work. Since Sin is additionally, at last, God’s creation, I think a suitable reaction to such a condition as Job’s would have been â€Å"Why would you say you are messing with us? † When Job at last recognizes God’s equity, Job recovers his great life! A touch of work and a touch of karma are the stuff to get a decent life. With respect to Genesis parts 1-11, I can't take these as a bona fide record of chronicled occasions. While perusing, I continued getting an inclination, in the rear of my psyche, that there is something innately wrong in the basis and clarifications of the practices of the characters (God included). The story introduced in Genesis has the makings of a fantasy, and is in a similar level as that of other creationist accounts of different convictions. As Darwin says, the idea of God is very past the extent of my capacities. Beginning 1-11 is a â€Å"explanation† of the starting points of the world, which I accept must be significantly more mind boggling than the sections relate (in any event on a superficial level). It additionally â€Å"explains† the starting points great and shrewdness in current humankind. Exhausting too. Fundamentally in light of the fact that the story has been related on many occasions, and, naturally, the sentences are organized as uniquely as conceivable from regular discourse, while as yet holding linguistic rightness. If you will do something to deal with your flows there wont be any reasons for you to think that you cant achieve your goals since you do whatever it takes. If you will be able to evaluate your skills and knowledge critically, you will understand that there are no reasons for thinking in such a way As you can, reflection is harmful to our mind. Reproductive Cloning Technology Essay - 1795 Words

Reproductive Cloning Cloning has become a major issue in our modern world, from moral, ethical, and religious concerns, to the problem of financial and government support. Human cloning is one of the most controversial topics, and because of this, many of the new important discoveries and beneficial technologies have been overlooked and ignored. Reproductive cloning technology may offer many new possibilities, including hope for endangered species, resources for human organ transplants, and answers to questions concerning cancer, inherited diseases, and aging. The research that led up to the ability to clone mammals started more than a century ago. From frogs to mice to sheep to humans, reproductive cloning promises many possibilities.†¦show more content†¦Gene cloning is a unique and complicated technology that holds answers to many questions, and offers numerous possibilities. The process of gene cloning will provide potential answers for questions and puzzles concerning cancer, aging, and in herited diseases, and will help provide a better tool for scientific health research, human and animal alike. But what exactly is gene cloning? It is a process in which a small portion of genetic information (a piece of DNA or gene) is removed from one organism, and introduced into a host cell (Wong, 4-5). In order to accomplish this, the gene is first inserted into a vector, or small piece of DNA. The vector then â€Å"acts as a vehicle† (Wong, 4-5) and transports the gene into the host cell. The act of this transportation into the host cell is called transformation, and the host cell becomes known as a â€Å"transformed† cell. This is where the gene-containing vector is replicated or â€Å"cloned† into identical cells (Wong, 31-34) Important discoveries led to this ability to clone genes. In 1970, scientists Howard Temin and David Baltimore were able to isolate the first restrictive enzymes, named Reverse Transcriptase, which cut DNA in particular locations (History of Cloning). These enzymes, after cutting the DNA, leave what are known as â€Å"sticky ends,† which are then healed by enzymes called ligase (McKinnell, 8-11). Then in 1972, Paul Berg from Stanford University successfully combined two pieces of DNA to form the firstShow MoreRelatedOverpopulation Is Not Too Late?1729 Words   |  7 Pagesfound interest in raising consciousness about the issue of overpopulation, but is it too late for the inevitable events that are to come? Reflective Discourse

Question: Discuss about theReflective Discourse. Answer: Introduction: It amazes me how capacity planning, location planning and scheduling is done almost every day in our lives. From a simple dinner party to a large scale industry producing a range of products or an IT company delivering wide variety of services production planning is the most commonly used management process. This is the main reason why this topic has caught my attention. Understanding the core of the topic is quite simple as we perform this form of planning continuously in our lives. However, implementing the same in an industrial environment can get quite complicated if the topic is oversimplified. I have worked with a small organization in the past years as an operations manager and have had the opportunity to have a closer look on how capacity planning based on demand forecast is done. As a part of my tenure there, I also had to research on whether a new location had to be added for smooth production. I worked on a production line where downsizing and expanding the capacity of the line was seasonal. The organization produced food products that were in huge demand around Christmas and New Years while the rest of the year the production capacity was quite steady. Every quarter a decision making team was set up to decide on the capacity of the production line for that quarter. These decisions involved an analysis on the demand that has been forecasted, the sales done in the past quarter and the expected clients in the new quarter. This meeting was the most important meeting for a quarter from an operations manager point of view. The decision made here effected the human resources required, the machinery that could be cut done, hours in which we would have to work and so on. I had the opportunity of working here in a high demand quarter when the company backed a client that required a high capacity production. I was quite shocked to see how the entire production line had been transformed to meet the unexpected demand of a specific client. We had to adopt a flexible capacity strategy were quick thinking was required. I had to talk to the HR team to recruit line workers on contract for a month and the facilities team to set up the machinery that was usually not used in this season. Also, the new recruits had to be trained to operate the machinery. To set the right tone, we had to prepare a schedule and make sure that the SLA given to the client was met. Aggregate production planning was done, were we recruited and trained the new line workers and at the same time informed and procured raw material from our vendors. This helped me understand that when a sudden demand arises it is not just the producing company that gets effected but also the vendor that supplies raw material. I had to create a material requirement list for procurement. It is here that I realized that missing a single product or ordering less than the required quantity would cause mayhem in the production. The scheduling was again based on the demand and deadlines forecasted. Capacity has been increased. It was crucial here that each stage of the production had to be done in time to ensure that the next stage was not bottlenecked. Thanks to prior planning the schedule was followed well and the demand was fulfilled. The standby machine maintenance team ensured that there were no surprises. I learnt here that capacity planning, demand forecast, material planning and production planning all go hand in hand and production cannot be complete even if one single aspect misses. After this demand I was asked by the company to study the production process of the company and suggest if a new production facility was required. I had to go through the current machinery the company uses, the revenue it generates, the labor it has, the demand it gets and so on. The fact that we could expand the current facility when a spike in demand was seen helped me determine that a new facility was not required as long as machinery backup was available. Labor was contract based and hence could be requested at any time. Also, investing in a facility would cost the company a huge part of its revenue and I have advised them to not do it as the company was relatively new. They could rather invest in better machinery. After going through the topic, I realized how production planning is not as simple as it looks. With the help of the academic knowledge I have gained and the new techniques I have learned I would be able to increase my capacity as an operations manager.

One Perfect Rose Essays - Literature, Poetic Form, Poetry

One Perfect Rose Dorothy Parker In the poem " One Perfect Rose " , Dorothy Parker misleads the reader throughout the first and second stanzas into believing this poem is a romantic tribute to a tender moment from her past through her word choice and s tyle of writing. However, the tone of the entire poem dramatically changes upon reading the third and final stanza when Parker allows the reader to understand her true intention of the poem, which is a sarcasm and mockery . Also , with this shift in the tone in the third stanza, there is a shift in the meaning of the entire poem, leading the reader to believe that the first two stanzas were not, in fact, sweet but instead a sarcastic and bitter account of this past moment. In the first stanza, Dorothy Parker uses specific words to create a double meaning. She uses words like " tenderly " , " pure " , and " perfect " to describe both the rose and its sender. The word s directly influence the reader's init ial reaction to the poem, as does the way in which she writes the poem. The stanza has four lines with every other line rhyming (ABAB format). It is short and sweet with a melodic quality in its reading. This musical quality definitely helps to lull the reade r into the belief that the poem' s intention is to come across as a romantic reco llection. However, in reading the poem through a second time, equipped with the knowledge of its true bitter notions, the reader sees what is purposely hidden but directly affects the overall tone. Parker mentions first and foremost the fact that this gen tleman sent her a single flowe r and ends the stanza with the phrase " one perfect rose " . There is a repetition here that at first thereader passes off as her noting the delicacy of the solitary flower. Upon reading the last stanza, it is realized that she is actually pointing out the fact that the only thing she received was one flower-that i s it. And, although there is a melodic quality to the rhythm to this poem, this rhythm accentuates the abruptness of her speech. She cuts lines off and speaks in short fragmented sentences. This, again, is something that is not noticed in the first read-through, but it does stand out after this initial reading. It almost seems as if Parker could not be bothered to spend too much time on the poem: it i s as if it was not worth the time or the effort. The second stanza is similar in content to the first. There are words Parker uses to deceive the reader at first- fragile, heart, love, and perfect. There are again four lines to the stanza with the odd and the even lines rhyming. And, of course, there are those words that the reader misses the first time reading it through. Her use of the word floweret is a perfect example of this. She cunningly makes a show of the fact that this is one, single flower by itself, but because the word rhymes with the word amulet two lines down, this mocking goes unnoticed. As does her the true meaning of the line Love long has taken for his amulet. Using this rose as the unknown gentleman s call sign at first seems cute. Superman has his S, this gentleman has his One perfect rose. The reader comes to realize that this symbol is not an honorable one. In the third and final stanza, Parker really shines the light on her true intention for this poem. She continues with the same format as the previous two stanzas, four lines with every other line rhyming and short, fragmented lines. However, her real feelings come out loud and clear in this stanza where they did not in the first two. She did not want that one, singe rose. Shewanted more, perhaps one perfect limousine. Here not only does she inform us what shewanted; she mocks what she did receive. Each line ends with the line " One perfect rose " , including the last stanza. And.

Comparing Financial Systems Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words

Comparing Financial Systems - Essay Example Economic globalization is the utopia towards which the world is moving. Yet, it is deemed to be practically impossible due to the different financial systems that exist in different countries. While some countries have a severely competitive market, others have a bank based economic system. Bank based system poses to secure ‘and mobilize savings, allocating capital, overseeing the investment decisions of corporate managers and also providing risk management vehicles.1’ Whereas, the market system is more competitive in a dual way. Different companies in the market are competing with each other and also the companies compete with the banks, which are still considered to be the conventional mode of getting savings earned by people. Yet, in the countries like U.K and U.S.A, people do risk to invest in the share markets and other companies which often help them earn more money than bank interest. Many analysts across the world have suggested that the market based financial sy stem is more lucrative than the bank based system, but the risk factor involved is also very high as compared to the bank based system, which has minimal risk factor. Now a study on the different financial systems of the world is bound to raise crucial questions which will be chronologically answered in the report. Chapter 1 Broad Classification of the Financial Systems – Bank Versus Market The development of any country is based on the reforms introduced and to introduce any reform, a stable financial system is very necessary. Structural reforms are mostly based on the financial system of a country. Most developing nations which have a centralized economy lack a full fledged financial system which is a big disadvantage for them. Financial system has a vast positive impact of financial development on economic growth and development 2. The financial structure among countries can be either bank based or market based or underdeveloped. The underdeveloped economies have both unde rdeveloped banks and market values. But flourishing financial systems can fall into either bank based financial system or market based one. It is popularly assumed that bank based financial systems are less flourishing compared to the market based ones but Japan stands as the biggest flourishing example of bank based financial system. Countries with a stronger economy and monetary strength have better developed financial systems. The countries which have a higher income always tend to get inclined towards the market based financial system because in these countries the stock market has higher efficiency and are relatively more active compared to the banks. The countries which have low corruption and protect shareholder’s rights are more inclined to the banks as they are looking for security more than earning 3. The bank based concentrates on the different roles of the banks such as getting information about the firm, the board of directors and trying their best to improve the allocation of funds as well as corporate governance. It also

Reflectiion Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Reflectiion Paper - Essay Example Indeed, the psychological paradigms of Dina’s personality become important issues within the social setup, especially social class and racial divide. The reflection on past events by Dina becomes the major factor that is able to help her to reconcile herself with the past and look forward to future. Dina was brought up within a stifled environment of a disturbed family where her mother loses her will to live and ultimately dies. She is wary of human relationship because she has seen her mother was trampled by her father. She not only carries the stigma of being poor but also is hugely distrustful of whites. Her defiance is actually her defense to shield herself from the imagined bullying by white students and teachers. That is perhaps the reason that during orientation games in Yale, she is provoked into stating that she would like to be a revolver! While revolver might be representative of violence, for Dina, it was a shield that could probably give her the emotional and physical security that she craves. The revolve might also be symbolizing the social violence within our society that the narrator voices when she says that her mother ‘would never be able to get where she wanted to go’. The poignancy of Dina’s thoughts and her behavior reflect the constrain ts of social conditioning. Dina’s character is intense and highly volatile but hides a softer human touch which she is afraid to show to the world. Her relationship with Heidi, a white girl is scintillating example of unpredictable human behavior which is easily swayed by love and trust. Heidi’s persistence bears fruit and Dina joins the rest of the students in the college canteen and also enrolls herself to become dishwasher. Subsequently, her interactions with others reveal the changing attitude of Dina and show the strength of her character that is more inclined towards justice and freedom, promoting

Associations such as the ACM and the Australian Computer Society have Essay

Associations such as the ACM and the Australian Computer Society have developed code of ethics for computing professionals - Essay Example Organisations such as Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) and Australian Computer Society (ACS) are strong advocates of ethical practices by IT personnel and have laid out sets of recommendations. This essay will look at some of their codes and how they can have practical use in reducing clearly identified threats to computer systems. At the outset, it is important to remember that almost any sort of business enterprise today will have a dedicated IT department. Hence the code of ethics laid down by ACM and ACS are applicable to IT personnel of such departments, irrespective of the business domain of the particular organisation. Some of the frequently occuring information security breaches are common for almost all businesses that are enabled by Information Technology. Broadly speaking, the term system security threats refers to â€Å"the acts or incidents that can and will affect the integrity of business systems, which in turn will affect the reliability and privacy of business data†. (Lin, 2006). Irrespective of the size of the organisation, the threat is persistent, and hence measures have to be undertaken to curb security breaches and ensure business continuity. Beyond the commonly identified security threats such as Viruses, Spyware, Adware, etc, a major source of information leakage and misappropriation occurs due to the abuse/misuse of computer network by employees themselves. (Lin, 2006). Since IT personnel have privileged access to vital business information, it is often very tempting for them to misuse this privilege and undermine the prospects for their employers. Employees are also prone to using Internet connectivity for their personal use when in fact they were strictly meant for official use. For example while email and general Internet access are given to improve productivity, surveys have shown that employees (including IT personnel) use them for such activities as online-shopping, playing games, social

Montgomery Awards :: essays research papers

The Collapse and Fall of Montgomery Ward   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Montgomery Ward was once one of America’s leading retail store’s and chains. The founder of Montgomery Ward, Aaron Montgomery Ward was the first in history to come out with the first dry-goods mail-order catalogue, witch listed 163 items. What happen to this company and its great ideas? With this paper I intend to help you realize how important it is to communicate within a business. This business probably would have been more successful and reached higher greatness if they had greater communication with the public.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A little background information. Montgomery Award was founded in 1872, and had its first free standing retail store in 1926 in Plymouth, Indiana. Montgomery Ward did not face any king of problems when it was first introduced, it succeeded in everything it did. The mail-order catalogue was great and doing well. By 1883 the company had a 240 page catalog with lists of 10,000 items all together. This is how the company got big and famous. By 1875 the company was doing so well so they come out with the catch phrase â€Å"Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Money Back.† In 1928 Mr. Ward opened 244 stores nation wide, and by 1929 he had over 531 stores. In1968 Montgomery Ward had major merges with Container Corporation of America and Mobile Oil corp. In 1988 they stray away from the mail-order business and concentrate on a specialty store strategies. In 1988 management undertakes successful 3.8 billion dollar buyout, making Montgomery Ward a privately held company, a nd in 1991 they resume the mail-order catalog business. Then in 1997 Montgomery Ward files ch11 bankruptcy. They eliminated 450 national office jobs, 250 stores, and 10 distribution centers in 30 states.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The major problem that Montgomery Ward fell victim to was an increasingly competitive retail environment, and a fast-paced world where aggressive discounters are forcing old-line operators to change radically or become ancient history. They just could not keep up. The communication was all wrong near the end, they were not able to give what the customers and the buying public what they wanted, a good quality product with low fair price. Even though they were making money it just wasn’t enough. In 1900 they recorded 8.7 million in sales but fell behind Sears and Roebuck which generated 10 million in sales. Another great reason why Montgomery Ward fell is the communication, the communication between the corporate headquarters and the public.

Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Rhetorical...

America’s history will be scarred forever by the evils of slavery which once existed here. Slaves lived lives of pain and hardship. But some, like the slave and later abolitionist Frederick Douglass, rose up from the tribulations of slavery and led the way for progress and change in America. In his autobiography â€Å"Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass†, Douglass tells his inspiring yet harrowing story of his life as a slave in Maryland and his escape to freedom in New York and later Massachusetts, where he eventually became an abolitionist. Douglass masterfully uses ethos, pathos, and logos to craft his powerful narrative that exposes to his audience, the American people, the horrors, absurdity, and hypocrisy of slavery. Douglass’s†¦show more content†¦Using pathos, Douglass also is able to establish parts of his tone. When describing the whippings and how slaves were treated like animals, any reasonable person would expect Douglass to be enrag ed. He likely was, but he kept a calm, cool, collected and almost political tone. If he had let this anger show, he too would’ve likely been seen as an ‘animal’. These qualities of Douglass’s tone are even more evident when he employs ethos. Douglass uses ethos to establish his credibility. In fact, establishing his credibility is the very first thing Douglass does. During his lifetime, the word of a black man meant nothing without a white man’s testimony. (Douglass brings that up in chapter ten.) So Douglass begins his book with a preface by William Lloyd Garrison, a white man who was very involved in anti-slavery movements. Even though we don’t need this to comprehend his credibility, Douglass’s audience at the time would have. More importantly, Douglass also improves his credibility through his own writing.
